Travelling to Chicago

Move into the dormitories at Lake Forest College

If you are arriving by plane at O'Hare or Midway airports, the faculty will meet you at the aiport and take you to Lake Forest College.

Lake in the Hills Fen Nature Preserve

Field Trip Day 1! We will: meet Barb Wilson (site steward), survey two rare plants species (Cirsium hillii, Asclepias luniginosa) using GPS and census methods. Be prepared to get up close and personal with some rare and lovely prairie plants.

To find out about the fen site, Cirsium hillii (Hill's thistle), and Asclepias luniginosa (woolly milkweed), follow the links.

We will also collect plant samples for DNA, plant samples for herbarium curation, soil cores for analysis, and foray for mushrooms in the local oak woodlands (time permitting).

** In case of rain, the field trip will be held on Wednesday (May 28). See the rain day schedule for week 1 for details.

This is an ALL-DAY field trip. Bring packed lunch, water, insect repellant, hat, and wear field clothes.

IMPORTANT! Are you allergic to insect stings (bees, wasps), have any other allergies (pollen, molds), or need to take medication on a regular basis?

Please let us know!!! This information will be kept confidential, but we need to know as a 'just in case'
